This is the best hotel in which I've ever stayed. The decor is exquisite, like I've stepped backwards in time 150 years. It's walls are lined with the artifacts of the Old West. The library is one historic collection of literature. There is so much to see, and that's before I step outside into the vast beauty of these mountains and badlands.
The resident massage therapist, Sue from RRR Massage, is phenomenal. There's so much knowledge, instinct, and strength in her hands! Having an on-site massage therapist wish so much experience is just brilliant.
I'm so glad I booked my stay here. Buffalo is a great town.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - AJ S.Carbondale, IL08539Aug 9, 2023
Hands down the WORST service I have ever experienced! I am vegan because I choose to be. This place offers a spicy black bean burger. I am always thrilled when I have options. Especially at a place where my boyfriend can enjoy a good meal also. We were so excited to be dining at this historical location and listen to some good live music by the owner. Too bad he has snotty immature children working for him. I planned ahead and I never expect any restaurant to cater to me and my life choices. I have been pleasantly surprised by plant based options on this trip out west. I can't do spice so the plan was to bring in my own beyond patty and order the spicy black bean burger and switch them out. This way everyone can be happy. But no that wasn't the way the evening turned out. My second bite in I noticed the mayo. Our server was no where to be found so I asked the other one if she could get me a new bun and condiments. She asked why and I told her. I offered that the menu didn't say Mayo. She then said yes it does, and she grabbed a menu to show me that I was mistaken and it was my fault and she pointed to the angus beef burger. I said I didn't order the angus beef burger I ordered the black bean burger which says lettuce tomato onion. She said oh. Well I'll get you a new one in a minute. I said ok thank you. 20 minutes later after helping everyone else in the restaurant she brought out a bun. No condiments just a dry bun. I tried but I couldn't choke it down. So I decided I would just get another drink and enjoy the music. I could eat when I get home. Then when the first server brought the check the meal that I didn't eat was on there. When I explained to her what happened and she would need to remove it she said well who did you talk to so I can verify this. Once again I was lying. By that time boyfriend was ready to go. So no music no more drinks and a pretty hefty bill for one meal. I understand that this is cowboy country and meat country but I tried my best for a fun out including bringing my own burger but The Occidental Hotel couldn't be bothered to even bring me some lettuce and a tomato slice. Or customer service.

It doesn't look like much as you walk past but the food is DELICIOUS and the service is 5 star! The home made chili was flavorful, bountiful, and not too spicy, paired with the Turkey sandwich or the loaded baked potato soup and BLT, this was the best place to stop for lunch on the way through town. We will be stopping again on our way back.

What an amazing experience. I stopped here on my way back to Minnesota after visiting Yellowstone NP and it was one of the best decisions I made the whole trip. So much history and character. Everywhere you looked there was something interesting. I stayed in the "Hole in the Wall" room and it was so comfortable that when I woke up I thought I was at home. I had dinner at the on site saloon and the food was delicious and fresh and the music that started at 8 was amazing. The next morning before I left I had breakfast at the Busy Bee and it was also obviously freshly made with the homemade biscuit being a standout. All in all it was a wicked amazing experience.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. Stayed in this historic hotel and had a wonderful dinner in the next door Saloon. We had a room upstairs with a clawfoot tub and beautiful bed. The staff made you feel like you were walking into your own living room and were there to make sure you were comfortable and happy. Additionally the folks in Buffalo Wyoming were lovely, friendly and fun.

Nothings changed and i'm happy for it!!
This is one of the most unique hotels i've ever stayed at. From the staff that makes you feel like family upon arrival, to the rooms fitted for every unique person alike. The hotel is located in the heart of downtown yet if you didn't want to leave the property, you don't have to! They have everything you'd ever need located downstairs. For breakfast you can hit Busy Bee or lollys located on the end of the hotel strip. Then after your trip up the mountain, i would suggest the hotel saloon for a delicious burger followed up with the virginia for a beautiful steakhouse dinner. Don't forget to check out the Jam sesh in the saloon to top off your eveningHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Patrick F.Miller Place, NY428Aug 29, 2021
Exactly as advertised. Historic place. One can sit in the lobby area and just imagine the people and goings on 100 years ago. Really cool. Bar staff was a little off putting but that's OK.
One note of caution, I don't know if the descriptions of the rooms say so or not, but not all of the rooms have a shower. One of ours did, one did not.
One other note, this town locks all the doors and closes down early, at least a lot earlier than we thought it would. You have to be aware of that if you're not used to towns that close early.
Finally, there are very strong rumors that the place is haunted.
As a niche hotel on a trip through this part of the Country, it is a must see!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Joan W.Mansfield, OH0121Apr 20, 2021
We were so pleased with the friendly, wonderful service. They are pet friendly, no additional charge. The room was authentic old west decor, was the entire Occidental Hotel. My husband was so excited with all the historical animal mounts, original paintings, hand made old quilts, and clothing. Delightful!
Hope to visit again and eat at the Virginian restaurant.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Karen S.Grand Rapids, MI0552Feb 13, 2022

Fun step back in time in a quaint little town. Of course the name of this hotel is mentioned in Longmire books so it's a must visit for Longmire fans but it's truly a must visit for fans of history or a time bygone. It's so nostalgic and authentic without being cheesy and touristy cheap.
If you are lucky enough to be in town on a night they have The Cowboy Jam its a Buffalo must!! I've been lucky enough to attend 2.
I noticed on my last visit between the Saloon and Hotel lobby just outside of the gift shop they have an interesting modern amenity ... an oxygen bar!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
