Red Gulch Dinosaur Track Site

167 million years ago, dinosaurs ran across a narrow stretch of beach next to the ancient Sundance Sea.  The tracks that they left in the sand so long ago have been miraculously preserved and were recently discovered in the neighborhood of Shell, Wyoming.   Tracks of this age are extremely rare, and scientists from around the world have come to study them.  Their studies have revealed that most of the tracks were made by two-legged meat-eating dinosaurs called theropods.

Some of these fast-running animals may have looked and behaved very much like the "raptors" in the Jurassic Park movies.   In one small area of the site, there are more than 600 footprints -- so many that scientists have nicknamed the area "the dance floor."
